The experts say the top 5 most stressful life events – in no particular order – include:


• Death of a loved one
• Divorce or separation
• Moving
• Major illness or injury
• Job loss


In 2008 I was in a bad way. I couldn’t sit, stand, sleep or walk without pain in my hip. I had experienced four out of five of these major life stressors in quick succession yet not one Doctor, Hip Specialist or Therapist/Health Practitioner asked me if I had been under any stress lately. Everyone was too busy focussing on ‘fixing the symptom’ and not looking at healing the cause.

The Effects Of Stress


Stress can cause symptoms to slowly appear over time. Often we don’t connect our symptoms to stressful events that have taken place some time ago. Like maybe a year ago when your best friend died of cancer, or when it took six very stressful months with no income for you to find a job, or that it’s been over a year since the birth of your baby and you still cant lose weight.


Maybe you’re blaming the pain you feel on old age or an old injury from your childhood. Or blaming your moods on being overworked or an unsupportive partner. Maybe your Doctor cant find whats wrong with you and said its all in your head or your family and friends are getting tired of listening to you complaining about your discomfort.

Stress Symptoms Checklist


Stress can affect all aspects of your life, including your emotions, behaviours, thinking ability, and physical health. No part of us is immune. We all deal with stress differently and therefore our symptoms can vary.


Emotional symptoms of stress include:


• Becoming easily agitated, frustrated, and moody
• Feeling overwhelmed, like you are losing control or need to take control
• Having difficulty relaxing and quieting your mind
• Feeling bad about yourself (low self-esteem), lonely, worthless, and depressed
• Avoiding others


Physical symptoms of stress include:


• Low energy, fatigue, burnout
• Headaches
• Upset stomach, including diarrhea, constipation, and nausea
• Aches, pains, and tense muscles
• Chest pain and rapid heartbeat
• Insomnia
• Frequent colds and infections
• Loss of sexual desire and/or ability
• Nervousness and shaking, ringing in the ear, cold or sweaty hands and feet
• Dry mouth and difficulty swallowing
• Clenched jaw and grinding teeth


Cognitive symptoms of stress include:


• Constant worrying
• Racing thoughts
• Forgetfulness and being disorganised
• Inability to focus on one thing
• Poor judgment
• Being pessimistic or negative


How To Relieve Stress Quickly


After my relationship breakup and move to Australia I began experiencing many of these symptoms and yet I didn’t know what to do. Meditation was helping, yoga was helping, massage therapy was helping but it wasn’t addressing the main trigger, the main cause. Identifying and clearing the emotions, feelings and thoughts which were causing a disruption in my energy flow finally got to the root of the problem. 


If you are experiencing any of these causes and effects of stress and want to feel better, trying to fix the symptoms won’t work. What will work is finding out what the cause is, what your emotional blocks and internal triggers are which are creating your symptoms.


Once these are identified and released your symptoms will disappear.


I put together a simple step by step method I called The Course, to teach my massage and retreat clients (particularly those who are empathic) how to identify and release the causes and effects of stress as they arise, anywhere, anytime and feel better immediately.
