Sexuality in a Box

women_sexualityDo you find it difficult to put yourself in a box and label your sexuality as heterosexual, gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, etc.

The closest truth I have found is that a women’s sexuality is fluid, is not set and changes throughout a women’s life if she allows it to. However so many of us presume we are either heterosexual or homosexual without questioning the possibility that there is more to our self-expression than this.

I recently read a book called Sexual Fluidity – Understanding Women’s love and desire, written by Lisa M Diamond, an Associate Professor of Psychology and Gender Studies at the University of Utah. Lisa argues that for some women, love and desire are not rigidly heterosexual or homosexual but fluid, changing as women move through the stages of life, various social groups and most important, different love relationships. It contains many accounts by women of their own experiences of sexual attraction and distraction.

If you have an aversion to putting your sexuality in a box, read this book – you will find you are not alone.
